Artist Statment

We live our everyday life as an ‘I’ with a number of roles. For example, I am a mother, a wife and sometimes also a daughter. And in society I am a teacher, a therapist or sometimes back a student who shares time with someone else. ...... So, which ‘I’ is the real ‘me’? Is the sum of these roles the ‘I’? Or is there a real ‘I’ somewhere, detached from all roles? This is where my motivation for making art comes from.

After having my first son, my largest and irreplaceable role has become a ‘be a mother’ and I couldn't make my artwork. because I felt there was a huge gap between me making artwork and me being the mother I was supposed to be. In Learning about art therapy, I found that the use of unwanted children's things (like homework, clothes) or my everyday life objects for making my artwork would fill this gap.

The artwork created by these means is 'me here and now'. For me, making artwork is an important indicator of constant self-confirmation of 'what the real me is'.
